Psa 24:3-6: (NIV)
Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Saviour. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Selah
Our God whom we worship is a Holy God, He is the creator of the heaven and the Earth and everything that is in it. He is a holy God and demands holiness from us. Living in this world its easy for us to move away from the word of God and compromise on biblical values in the things that we do. We may not please God.
Being a Christian we cannot live a dual lifestyle doing both God’s will and also doing things that does not please God.
David, when he writes makes it clear, that our Holy God demands holiness and says that the one who has a clean hands and a pure heart and the one who does not lift his soul to an idol. He will receive blessings and will receive vindication from the God of Jacob.
Lets meditate on one part of the Verse : the one who does not lift his soul to an Idol.
The word “Idol” in KJV is translated as “Vanity”
which can mean, setting our hearts on something false or an idol, to make it more clear, setting our hearts on Vain things.
In this world there are so many things that may take us away from God. So many Heretic teachings, Cults, New Age Movements and etc.., all these may take us away from God. The Psalmist makes it very clear that only the one who does not life his soul to another or does not swear in what is false will enter into the holy presence of God. Such person will receive blessings from God and God will show his favour upon the one that possess such person.
I believe that God is the one that can Give us Clean hands and pure heart that we may lift our souls to another and be a generation that seeks your face O God of Jacob.
Although we may fail many times in our life. Lets ask God to Give us clean hands and pure heart.
Lord heavenly father. Help us to live holy life, life which pleases you O God. Help us to run away from every sin that entangles and live a holy life and life that is fully devoted to you. In your name we pray. Amen!
