How many of you have cleaned your cupboards or drawers lately?
Have you found papers, boxes and random objects that are supposed to be in the dustbin but is safely kept in your cupboards?
Have you found anything like that?
I’m writing this blog after an inspirational thought that came to my mind after I cleaned my cupboards and drawers in my room. And I call it “the Junk we carry”
I cleaned my cupboards and drawers after two years. Long time right?! I’ve been busy, you know. 😀
So, as I cleaned, I noticed that a lot of papers, boxes and random objects that are supposed to be in the dust bin are occupying space in the most secured places in my room.
As this thought was going through my mind. I realized the same thing happens in our life. We go travel through many paths in life. We face good times, we see bad times, listen to people’s opinion about us, the bad talk, the filthy talk and the gossips. All of these bad memories and conversations are stored in our hearts.
Often times we fail to realize that those things we’ve heard and seen, 70% of it is junk; something that is to be thrown out. But we don’t throw out so easily. We recollect those memories. We ponder over it. As a result, we feel low, loose our self-esteem and most of all; loose the ability to grow and progress in life.
Proverbs 4:23 says, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Guarding your heart means not just protection but cleaning it. You’ve got to clean your minds. Clean your heart and throw away all the bad memories and conversations. And then you will able to grow and live according to God’s will.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
The writer of Hebrews gives a beautiful exhortation; “let us throw everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us.” Learning to throw away our old habits and memories is important.
For you, it may be an old abusive relationship, afflictions from Childhood or someone who has hurt you deeply or that conversation that triggers disgusting thoughts in your mind. Such memories are just junk. They are supposed to be in the dust bin but has been living in your heart for a long long time.
Ask God to help you clean yourself every day of the bad memories. God is able to cleanse us and purify us.
Make that as a prayer every day in your life
