James 1:6

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James, the brother of Jesus writes a very practical letter to the Jewish people scattered all throughout the Roman empire.

He says, “Ask and do not doubt.”

Here’s my devotion for the day,

I blogged a few days back about faith. In faith we believe that God will supply our needs, so we ask him to provide for our needs. Mathew 7:7 says, “Ask and it shall be given to you.” The Greek word used for “Ask” in Mathew 7:7 is same as the one used in James 1:7, and it means, “Request, petition, and demand.” If you read carefully, what’s clear is that, the word “Ask” allows no room for doubt or confusion. James asks his reader to have that faith in God that is so much unshaken that you can ask anything without a doubt.

On the practical side of it. I admit, it’s hard to ask without doubting. It’s easy to ask and trust our parents for our needs than to ask God and trust that it will be provided. Because we see our parents and know how much they earn and know that they can give what we ask.  But we don’t see God that way. Although his treasures are infinite but it’s hard to understand it with our feeble brains.

Many times, I am asked, How I pay my bills and meet my expenses. I say God provides for everything. And the next question, How? How is that even possible? I smile and still say, “God provides. He is faithful.”

Here’s how you can begin understanding God’s infinite treasures and his providence for you.

Several years ago, I asked a question to a guest speaker who visited the college where I was studying. “How do I discern the voice of God ?” She said You get it into the practice of hearing God’s voice every day and you will know how to discern better.

Placing your trust in God is very similar to that; it’s something you should do every day; practice every day. You put your faith in God and practice faith every day and as a result you will experience and understand his providences for you. Then it will be easier to ask for your needs.

This verse also says, “that one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind”, and goes on to say for anyone that asks with a doubt, “That Person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

In conclusion,

Ask without a doubt. You will receive it. Practice faith and live life of faith. God will never let you down. I am in full-time ministry. He has never let me down until this day. I have seen and experienced it. Every day is a miracle. I believe that’s how God created us to live. Let’s practice faith and ask anything we need without doubting.
